MELISCA KLISANIN

Melisca Klisanin is a New York designer, specializing in interior floor and wall coverings. She explores various techniques and materials in her work, which spans from hand woven silk to cast resin.

Traveling to Katmandu to work with weavers on reviving ancient hand-knotting techniques to Egypt for creating commissioned hand-knotted silk pieces for private collectors. Then working with Amish women on natural hand-dyed raw silk and linen rag-rugs to Maroc to persuade hand-tufters into using native wool and silk/wool combinations to most recently pouring a collection of one of a kind resin rugs at her studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York. Melisca Klisanin previewed her hand- poured resin rugs, the "petals" collection during the Salone di Mobile at alterpoint -an off site exhibition of 27 designers.  Each piece is a one of a kind design due to the nature of the material and the mood of the designer.

In 1998, Melisca Klisanin was named by The New York Times Magazine Home Design as one of six most important artisans likely to become household names. Her designs have been widely exhibited including The International Furniture Fair in New York, The   New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York and the Milan Furniture Fair. Her work is available through Spatia in Europe, as well as her own furniture gallery in New York, where she features up- and coming artists and furniture designers.
