The Tulip and Fungi lamps, from Dingaling Studio, have different shapes but feature the same shade treatment: a soft, translucent rubber-like screen that's made with woven wire, gauze and resin.

In the background, the company's Delirium Tremens wine racks, Worm-inWood shelf, 2000 Millennium wall clocks and Escargot mantel clocks are on display.

Don't let the name fool you: the designers at Dingaling Studio know what they're doing. Under the leadership of Icelandic designer Olafur Thordarson, this company produces lighting and objects that combine art and sculpture with industrial design.
Thordarson's philosophy is to craft innovative products from readily available materials. Each furniture piece has its own strong identity through color, form and material use.
Since these designs are labor intensive, many pieces are available on a small-production basis; others are numbered and made on a short-run production level.
The Tulip floor lamp stands seven feet high and "speaks of a relationship between the floor and the ceiling," according to the designer. Reinforced steel bars suspend a soft, translucent, rubber like screen that is made with woven wire, gauze, and resin. The lamp is supported by a concrete base that resembles a "foot-cast". A wide beam of light -from one 75-watt and one 60-watt bulb - is projected out of the screen and onto the ceiling above.
Dingaling Studio's Fungi lamp stands seven feet high and shares the same design philosophy as the Tulip lamp. A crater-like cast concrete foot contains a fixture that projects light into the translucent screen shade. In addition, a narrow light beam is projected vertically from the top of the lamp. It has the same shade treatment/screen as the Tulip lamp.
